Jeremy’s Role at Falcon: Geotechnical Services Manager
Tell us about what you enjoy doing outside of work.
Hanging out with my wife and two sons (3 and 4 years old), riding and working on motorcycles (especially off-road), listening to music, working on projects around the house, traveling, hiking and exploring the natural environment (which I get to do at work too!), and visiting great restaurants and breweries. Spending some time relaxing at home with family and pets is always enjoyable too.
Where is the best place you’ve traveled to and why?
The American West – wide open spaces, awe inspiring landscapes, millions of acres of parks, trails, and scenic roads, and lots of great places to eat, drink, and be happy. To top it all off, it’s a geology nerd’s paradise. What’s not to love?
How do you define success?
Feeling good about what you have achieved in life and the direction you are headed. There is always a new goal to work towards, but I think as long as you can be proud of what you have accomplished and happy with the life you have created for yourself, that is the ultimate success.
What are three career lessons you’ve learned so far?
- Learn to rely on your co-workers and never be afraid to ask for help or delegate tasks. The power of a team of individuals committed to a single goal is amazing.
- You will never know exactly what is going on below the ground and there will always be surprises. But, we can still seek to understand it better by studying geologic processes and applying lessons from past projects.
- A good Engineer helps their clients truly understand the variables and risks they are dealing with. Just presenting sound data, designs, and estimated quantities does not give your client the full picture.
What do you enjoy most about working at Falcon?
Working with great people, for great clients, on great projects, and the variety of tasks and projects I get to be involved in. We really are like one big family and truly enjoy spending time together working towards a common goal.
“Jeremy serves as Falcon’s Geotechnical Services Department Manager as well as one of Falcon’s Senior Geotechnical Engineers. In this dual role over the last several years, Jeremy has exhibited an uncanny (and rare) mastery of both engineering and management skills. His unique geotechnical engineering prowess and design capabilities are comparable to his ability to attentively manage his clients, projects, and staff – all in an A++ manner. During Jeremy’s tenure as Geotechnical Manager, he has doubled his staff size and capabilities, and doubled his departmental annual revenues. Jeremy also is a devout family man, always finding a way to spend plenty of time doing fun things with his wife and two young sons, no matter the work load. If he gets a free moment to himself, Jeremy can be found riding his motorcycle out on a trail, or brewing up some really good beer.” – Chris Norville, PE, Vice President
