During the early site work phase, extensive blasting of rock was required during the 40 to 60 foot excavation. Given the surrounding properties that included research buildings and private residences, Falcon performed a thorough pre‐blast survey to document existing conditions. Throughout this phase of the project, Falcon continuously monitored seismic vibration and was able to provide assurances that work was being performed in a manner that did not jeopardize the surrounding structures.

Project Description

Marsico Hall supports a range of programs and departments including the Biomolecular Research Imaging Center (BRIC) and the School of Pharmacy’s Center for Integrative Chemical Biology and Drug Discovery. Falcon provided construction geotechnical engineering services for mass excavation of rock, installation of soldier piles, blasting/vibration analysis, installation of tie-back systems, and rerouting of utilities. Falcon also performed special inspections and materials testing, including inspections of the 10-story cast-in-place concrete structure as well as the structural steel pedestrian bridges and mezzanine framing.
